Windows is not being very careful with the updates of it’s Windows 10 operating system. To the problems that arose last May and the October update that deleted the files from the computer is now added a problem with the latest Windows Defender update that, once completed, prevents us from starting on the computer that has been installed.
This has been recognized by Microsoft itself and has been warned by the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) to users. The issues with this update affect all versions of Windows 10 (Enterprise, Pro, and Home) and Windows Server 2016.
Apparently, it would be a bug that affects computers with the Secure Boot function (version 4.18.1901.7) active in the BIOS.
In addition, the INCIBE warns that the update could generate problems due to a change in the location of the route in which the update occurs. This fact would cause many downloads to be blocked when AppLocker (the Windows application execution control program) is activated.
When in doubt, the best thing to do is not update Windows Defender until the problem has been completely resolved .
On the other hand, if you have already updated to the latest version and your computer is experiencing failures, you can follow the following steps , according to the official Microsoft website.
1. Restart your computer and enter BIOS
2. In the BIOS, disable Secure Boot, save the changes and restart your computer again.
3. Open the command window and enter the following text:
“% programdata% MicrosoftWindows DefenderPlatform4.18.1901-7MpCmdRun.exe” -revertplatform
4. Wait a minute and run the following commands:
4.1 sc query windefend to verify that Windows Defender is working
4.2 sc qc windefend to verify that the version of Windows Defender is no longer 4.18.1901.7
5. Restart your computer, enter BIOS, and enable Secure Boot
